My favorite way to meditate, is to sit in a comfortable chair (making sure it has arms so I don't
fall off :-) with a blanket. If it is hot, it is up to you but I tend to get a lower temp going when I do this so a light
cover is nice...also, it feels comforting (I sometimes have to touch something to remember I am still grounded...a personal
thing).
I say my prayer of protection- some people do not do this but I have come to respect it and it is part of my
ritual.
While sitting, I close my eyes and breathe three deep breaths, inhaling fully and exhaling slowly and fully to
the point of gently blowing the rest of the air out. While I do this, I say:
(in my mind--everything from here is said in the mind)
"Relax"--on the inhale; and "Now"--on the exhale.
After the third breath I go back to breathing normally as I say "I am going deeper and deeper and deeper (you
can time these to your breaths also if you choose to) into a safe, secure, loving place within.
Then I allow myself to walk upon a path that I find to be peaceful to me which ultimately ends at a cave with
a pond and waterfall in front. I enter the water and walk through the waterfall (to me the water is a cleansing of the
stress and negativity). From there I enter the cave.
I wind my way to my special place. It is different for each person as you come to visualize what your cave will
look like. This brings familiarity and repetition is what makes the meditation easier. Your mind gets used to doing this and
will start going in quicker over time.
Relax and let your meditation begin.
When you are done, you should allow yourself to come back slowly to the now.
I always thank whatever guides have helped me and then I open my eyes and have a drink of water. Remember
that water is balancing and grounding.
Over time, you will find that you can develop your own way of meditating and in fact, you may find
meditating while walking, showering etc. is the best way of doing it for you. I just find that the peace
of closing my eyes and resting is a plus to this... Also, I tend to go a bit deeper into a Theta state and work there for
awhile. But that is another story ;-)
